I bought a Chevette in the mid 80s.
Slow but somewhat dependable
Here was the history.
A) Had an accident early on at about 2,000 miles. Had to have a new trans (second) put in it.
Ran slow for years
The shifting became horrible. It would jerk whenever I put it in drive.
B) Had to bring it in a few times for trans repairs.
C) At 80-90,000 miles had to have another trans put in it. Vacuum issues.
D) Eventually died at 140,000 miles in the mid 90s, about 10 years after I bought it.
Along the way, the speedometer stopped working, and some tires replaced a bit early.
Was this unusual?
Were the trans issues (jerking, when stopped or starting from a stop - Eventually had to put trans in neutral at a stop)
Were the trans issues unusual?
I got 140,000 miles from it. I was good about changing oil, so was this unusual? Even though a few times, it went
into the red. I was good about every 3,000 miles as a rule.
Was 140,000 a decent lifespan for a chevette on its third trans.
