Hey boys, Just got a 1984 Pontiac 1000, 5 speed standard, two door hatchback. just starting a thread because hopefully i will take tis beauty to a nice condition and some decent upgrades. Im looking forward to learning stuff about the good old girl and get her running like a charm. Just got it into the shop at my school for a oil leak and something to do with the steering, lots of play in the wheel.

Nice, a 5 speed. Need one of them for my girlfriend's Chevette. It runs out of RPM on the highway. Welcome aboard.

Just got the steering wheel play down from little to none. Making some progress. Although that oil leak is going to be a tough find and fix, but looking forward to fixing it finally.

From what i can see, its under the distributor and by the cooling fan

Probably the fuel pump gasket or the cam seal.

No clue, never seen any kind of "body kit" stuff except from South America. There was a "rally" model here in the US, but I'm not sure what kind of doo-dads they came with.

Factory spoiler...I guess they are hard to get, I don't think anybody's ever managed to prove any cars were sold with them. There was a picture of one in a 1984 dealer brochure so GM built least one chevette.org/1984ChevetteBrochure.htm Good luck. I have seen a few sets or rear window louvers for sale though, not recently though.

OKay thanks, and we narrowed the oil leak to the cam seal, ordering a new one today. I think those louvers would look sick.

I like The Tomato. I never see the Pontiacs around, only Chevettes.

Hey, Havent posted in awhile thought id give an update. Started to paint it a smoke grey, leaving chrome trim but side trim and pinstriping is off. painting doors and quarter panels smoke grey while roof and hood will be a flat black, just doing it with a spray can cause its not a million dollar car and its just for looks. Not done yet though still have roof and hood and ride side rear quarter to paint. Been fun so far weathers just shitty so its hard to find a day where i can prep and paint.
